Sixth flood wave hits Moldova
A sixth flood wave has entered Moldova, raising the Prut River level by 2.5 meters in the Briceni area.
Emergencies Service spokesperson Liliana Puscasu has told Info-Prim Neo the level of water in Lipcani rose by 1.8 meters to reach 6 meters, with the critical level being 8 meters. In Sirauti the rise is similar; the water level reached 5.86 meters. At risk of being flooded are 185 houses in Drepcauti village, 5 houses in Criva village, 11 in Lipcani village and 3 in Sirauti village.
The previous five flood waves damaged 566 homes in many different communities in the district of Ungheni, Hancesti, Nisporeni, displacing some 3,000 people. Dam reinforcement and evacuation efforts are under way, involving around 1,500 policemen, carabineers, military men, other uniformed people as well as groups of ordinary people.
