The 6th edition of the International Documentary Film Festival “Cronograf” was launched on May 1. 39 films from 18 different countries will be projected in those two sections of the international contest: Documentary Film and cadRO, along with some special events and projections out of competition, that count totally almost 30 hours of projections. The films included in the basic section “Documentary film” are judged by 5 persons, directors, producers, festival directors and film critics from France, Germany, Romania, Ukraine and Moldova. The president of this year’s edition is Ana-Maria Plamadeala, film critic from Moldova. CadRO is a new section dedicated to films about Romanians from all over the world. Filmmakers from 8 countries, Romanians or of other nationalities have presented their films for this section. There will be a special jury of 3 persons for this section, different from the one of the main section. The president of the Jury, Marian Voicu, a TV show and documentary film producer from TVR mentioned at the opening of the event that “the festival is getting better every year, and Chisinau becomes a cultural city”. At the opening festivity of the festival, a documentary film dedicated in loving memory of the poet, the scientist and the statesman Ion Vatamanu was presented. The film is an OWH TV Studio production, directed by Leontina Vatamanu, the poet’s daughter. On May 2, the public had the occasion to see the premiere of the one-minute films produced by the young participants in the International Video Laboratory 2007, organized by OWH TV Studio. On May 4, after the end of the contest, the film “cuvinte.ro” (“words.ro”) produced by Violeta Gorgos will be presented for the first time in Moldova. On May 5 the public will be able to see the productions of the local producers included in the Local Studios Productions Section, as well as special projections of films out of competition. The public will have the chance to watch 4 German Documentaries of the latest hour. This projection is organized with the support of the Goethe Institute in Bucharest. The festival will end on May 5 with the Awards Ceremony when the trophies and the prizes for the festival will be offered. Valentin Virtosu is the sculptor of the trophies. Cronograf Festival is organised by OWH TV Studio in collaboration with the Filmmakers Union, TV5 Monde and the French Alliance in Moldova. All projections take place in the Big Hall of the Filmmakers Union, on 18 Alexandru cel Bun Street, Chisinau. The multiple entry tickets for MDL 20, valid for the entire period of the festival, can be purchased at the Filmmakers Union.
