Six ponds to be populated with fish

The ponds managed by the Hunters and Fishermen’s Society of Moldova will be populated with fish for the first time. About 15 million larvae of carp and other kinds of fish will be released into six ponds in May-June, IPN reports.

According to a communiqué from the Society, the six ponds are: “Ghidighici” in Vatra; “Delia” in Ungheni; “Caramidaria” in Balti; “Berchin” in Edinet; “Lacul vanatorilor” (“The hunters’ lake”) in Sangerei, and “Orasenesc” in Orhei.

Iurie Botnari, specialist in ichthyology, said the method of populating the ponds with larvae offers more advantages. First of all, it is not so expensive. One million larvae cost 6,500 lei at a time when a tonne of young fish costs about 40,000 lei. The larvae develop practically in natural conditions as the water is not changed, there is micro-flora, etc. Furthermore, particular losses sustained when the ponds are populated with young fish are avoided, for example when transporting and transferring it.

In order to fish in these ponds during a day, members of the Hunters and Fishermen’s Society of Moldova will have to pay by 30 lei, while the fishermen who are not members of the Society – by 50 lei.
