Six NFSA employees arrested for taking bribe in Otaci

Six employees of the National Food Safety Agency (NFSA) were arrested on suspicion that they took bribe from different business entities to facilitate freight transit. On Monday morning, anticorruption officers carried out searches at the Oraci Border Inspection Post of the Agency within criminal cases started over passive corruption, IPN reports.

The National Anticorruption Center said the employees of the Oraci Border Inspection Post asked and received sums of money in different currencies from carriers of products of animal and vegetal origin for not subjecting them to sanitary-veterinary checks. This way, the carriers avoided control of the observance of sanitary-veterinary norms, the requirements concerning food safety and quality in the process of importing fresh meat, dairy products, confectionery and other goods that are subject to sanitary-veterinary inspection.

As a result of the searches conducted at the NFSA’s Oraci Border Inspection Post, at the domiciles and in the cars of the six suspects, 35,000 lei, 8,000 Hryvnias, mobile phones and records of imported goods were seized.

Investigation actions are being taken under the direction of the Balti Prosecutor’s Office for documenting all the aspects of the case.
