Six members of an organized criminal group aged between 25 and 58 were sentenced for committing a number of robberies in Chisinau and in the districts of Ialoveni and Straseni, IPN reports, quoting the Prosecutor General’s Office.

In July 2012, the offenders, knowing that a man keeps golden jewels for sale, attacked him in the stair of the building where he lived. The robbers hit him and stole his jewels and other things to the value of about 550,000 lei. In another case the same month, the offenders, knowing that a woman from Straseni district brought golden jewels and money from Greece, broke into her home. Wearing balaclavas, the men attacked the owner of the house and tied him up. They told him to give them all the money and golden jewels, but could not find precious objects in the house.

In August 2012, they broke into another house in Ialoveni district, but stole nothing because they were scared by owners’ dogs and ran away.

The culprits got 10 to 15 years in jail. They were also ordered to pay 80,000 lei in respect of non-pecuniary damage to the victims.
