Six athletes represent Moldova at European competition
The Republic of Moldova will send six athletes to the European Athletics Championship, which started on Wednesday, June 27, in Helsinki, Finland, reports Info-Prim Neo. Among them are four representatives of the country to this summer’s Olympic Games in London.
Athletes Olesea Cojuhari and Ion Luchianov will compete today, and on the following days – sisters Zalina and Marina Marghiev will participate at hammer throw, Natalia Artyc at discus throw, and Alexandru Cuharenco at long jump.
In the previous edition of the Championship, in Barcelona, Ion Luchianov managed an historic performance for Moldovan athletics, by winning the bronze medal.
Almost all of these athletes are part of Moldova’s national team to the Olympics in London. The ones who met the qualification criteria are Ion Luchianov, Iaroslav Musinschi, Roman Prodius, Zalina and Mariana Marghieva, Serghei Marghiev, Natalia Cerches, Natalia Artyc, Elena Popescu and Olesea Cojuhari.
According to National Athletics Federation president Anatol Balan, two or three more athletes have chances to qualify for participation at the Olympics.
