Situation of Chisinau wastewater treatment station expected to improve
A number of Moldovan towns want to implement the mud drying methods used at the Chisinau wastewater treatment station, Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said in the September 6 meeting of the City Hall, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The mayor instructed drafting a letter with proposals for all the water and sewerage companies working in Moldova so that Apa-Canal Chisinau could provide expert advice. According to Chirtoaca, many towns do not have wastewater treatment plants and hundreds of tonnes of sewage are dumped into the Nistru, the Byk and other rivers.
SA Apa-Canal Chisinau director Constantin Becciev said many towns could learn from the experience of the capital city in using geotubes. Chisinau managed to get rid of the mud collected during 41 years. The other towns will do it much easier as the volume of works there is lower. The municipality of Balti is willing to implement Chisinau's mud drying methods as soon as possible.
Constantin Becciev also said that though results were obtained, these methods are not the best and other similar projects are needed in Chisinau. The contest for a grant of €3 million provided by the European Commission was won by a French company that will start to design a new wastewater treatment station for Chisinau in 1-2 months. “We are proud that we managed to remove the unpleasant smell in the city with modest resources,” said the director of the Chisinau water supplier.
Constantin Becciev promised that the situation of the wastewater treatment station will be better in a month as the works to clean the mud drying platforms have been completed.
