Situation at CFM to be discussed at next meeting of Supreme Security Council

The thefts committed at the state-run enterprise “Moldova’s Railways” (CFM) led to the accumulation of salary arrears at the enterprise. The situation will be disused in the next meeting of the Supreme Security Council that will involve the enterprise’s administration, said Andrei Spânu, secretary general of the President’s Staff, who came out to talk to the railway workers who protested on March 4, IPN reports.

Andrei Spânu expressed his regret at the fact that the state institutions didn’t full their duties and didn’t solve the problems faced by the CFM, even if acts of corruption were reported at the enterprise. The instruments for solving the problem of salary arrears at the CFM are controlled by the Government, the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure. The problem is to be also discussed with acting Prime Minister Aureliu Ciocoi.

The president of the Trade Union Federation of Railway Workers Ion Zaporojan, who took part in the protest, said the salary arrears at the CFM come to over 100 million lei and a large part of the employees didn’t get their pays for the past four months. 5,000 people who worked at the enterprise resigned during the past six years because the salaries weren’t paid on time and weren’t increased.

Ion Zaporojan also said that since July 2020, the employer hasn’t transferred the trade union dues to the accounts of trade unions and these cannot offer assistance to the employees of the CFM. He filed a lawsuit against the administration of the CFM. The overdue trade union dues now total 2 million lei. The director of the CFM does not even want to discuss with the people.

Contacted by IPN, CFM director Adrian Onceanu was unavailable for comment.

Representatives of salary earners of the CFM protested in front of the Parliament Building and the Presidential Palace on March 4, demanding that the salary arrears since November 2020 be cleared, the company’s managers be dismissed and the trade union dues be transferred to the accounts of trade unions. The increasing of salaries is also among the demands. The enterprise has about 7,000 employees whose average pay is 4,000 lei.
