The Security and Intelligence Service (SIS) transferred today to the National Archive another 5,000 files on people repressed during the communist regime, Info-Prim Neo reports.
SIS deputy director Valeriu Dediu said that some of these files were of important people: politician and former prefect of Balti Stefan Pirogan, National Council deputies Vasile Gafencu and Anton Caraiman, jurist and politician Alexandru Mata. The most important file is that of Alexandru Usatiuc-Bulgar, Gheorghe Ghimpu and Valeriu Graur, comprising 11 volumes.
Most of the files had been initiated under article 45 of the Penal Code of the Ukrainian SSR (applied in Moldavian SSR until 1961), for crimes, anti-Soviet actions and propaganda.
The next transfers from SIS archives to the National Archive are scheduled for May, September and November. By the end of the year, 13,485 files should be transferred. The first 5,000 SIS files were moved to the National Archive in November 2010.
Petru Vicol, head of the Archive, told Info-Prim Neo that access to these files would be restricted at least until the end of March. Currently they are being ordered.
