Begging accompanied by the simulation of a disability is proposed to be punished with a fine of 300 to 1,500 lei or 20 to 60 hours of community service. The relevant bill to amend the Contravention Code is to be submitted to the Government for approval, IPN reports.
The bill says the persons who will beg by simulating a physical or mental disability will be fined or punished with community service.
The bill was drafted by the Ministry of Justice in cooperation with the Ministry of the Interior.
Currently, begging in Moldova is not punished.
The paper Ziarul de Gardă last April published an investigation about beggars in Chisinau who pretended to be seriously ill so that the people showed mercy to them.
