Simple motion against the Minister of Defense

ACUM bloc MPs have introduced on Friday in Parliament, November 29, a simple motion against the defense minister, Victor Gaiciuc. According to them, "through his public statements, the minister declared his support for separatist movements".

During a press conference, Mihai Popșoi, PAS group MP, ACUM bloc, said that the initiation of the dismissal procedure of Victor Gaiciuc from the position of defense minister is called for due to his "support for the aggression against Ukraine, for the blatant challenge of sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, for statements and positions that endanger the efforts of the Republic of Moldova to establish a strategic partnership with Ukraine and to achieve the peaceful settlement of the Transnistrian dispute". The MP said that Victor Gaiciuc made statements "in solidarity with the separatists and war criminals in Donbas".

The ACUM bloc MPs demanded that "President Igor Dodon and the government led by Ion Chicu immediately and publicly dissociate from Victor Gaiciuc's statements and provide clear assurances to Ukraine that the government of the Republic of Moldova does not share these visions that challenge Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity".

The ACUM group MP, DA Platform, Chiril Moţpan, said that Victor Gaiciuc defied the provisions of the Constitution, because the Army and the defense minister are symbols of the independence of a state, while the statements were made by Gaiciuc, who holds the rank of general and has previously been minister of defense. "Mr. Gaiciuc is a great strategist and his comments are meant to cause upset in an already incendiary atmosphere", noted Chiril Moţpan.
