Simple motion against minister Svetlana Cebotari fails

The simple motion on health and social protection submitted by the Socialist MPs failed right before the questioning of the minister, when the MPs of the parliamentary alliance left the sitting and the quorum was thus not present, IPN reports.

Before Svetlana Cebotari was invited to present a report, the chairman of the Democratic parliamentary group Marian Lupu said this motion is the third of the kind already and the end result is every time the same. These moves by the Socialists are nothing but a show and an ordinary rerun of last year’s actions. The MPs have the right to propose motions, but this is now done in a very clear political context, before the elections, and the Socialists suggested a speculative initiative. Lupu said the Democrats will not take part in the examination of the simple motion and called on their colleagues from the parliamentary alliance to do the same.

Eugen Carpov, head of the European People’s Parliamentary Group, said the Socialists always apply two tactics - they either submit motions or leave the assembly hall in protest, as they did in yesterday’s sitting. This example can be followed by other groups. The MPs of the European People’s Group didn’t leave the hall.

As a result, 36 MPs remained in the hall and Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu ascertained that the quorum was absent. He noted that based on the judgments passed by the Constitutional Court, a simple motion is considered rejected if the quorum is not present.

Socialist MP Vlad Batrincea said the examination of the motion and of the minister’s report is a possibility of discussing the policies in the sector. The parliamentary majority’s gesture shows the government is afraid of the people as they avoid discussing the problems.

Liberal MP Ion Apostol noted that the show continued in today’s sitting. According to him, the government and the authors of the motion agreed to act so in order to distract attention from the existing problems.

The head of the Liberal-Democrat group Tudor Deliu said it is a kind of political game. The MPs forget that the social problems should be examined without political bias.

Communist MP Elena Bodnarenco made reference to opinion polls, saying the country follows a wrong course and no matter how hard the government tries to shirk responsibility, the elections will show how the people assess its performance.

Another two motions proposed earlier by the Socialists also failed. These referred to the domestic and foreign policy pursued by Deputy Prime Minister Iurie Leanca and to the economic policy pursued by Minister Kiril Gaburici.
