Minister of Health, Labor and Social Protection Viorica Dumbrăveanu will further fulfill her duties. The simple motion against her examined in the July 10 sitting of Parliament wasn’t supported by the parliamentary majority. The minister’s dismissal was requested by the MPs of the Pro Moldova group and the Shor group, IPN reports.
In her speech, Ruxanda Glavan, of the Pro Moldova group, said the situation in the healthcare sector is critical and the system is on the verge of collapse. “Today we witnessed in Parliament a new episode of the theater of the absurd,” she stated, noting the people are discouraged by the incompetence and arrogance with which those who are in power keep their responsibilities and are tired of waiting for justice. The epidemiological situation in Moldova is worse than in the countries that took no measures to fight the pandemic.
Marina Tauber, of the Shor group, criticized the allocation by the Government of over 70 million lei for the Chisinau Arena, doing simultaneously nothing to improve the fight against COVID-19. The minister of health should resign voluntarily, as the ministers of other countries did, for the poor management of the pandemic crisis.
PPPDA MP Igor Munteanu noted the pandemic situation is out of control and statistics compared with other countries, concerning the frontline personnel, prove this. The minister should leave because of the following reasons: allowing of persons who aimed to gain political advantages to manage the pandemic; inefficient communication with the population, non-supporting of the massive testing of the population.
PAS MP Dan Perciun said the Ministry of Health applied an incorrect testing strategy, inappropriately outfitted the doctors with protective equipment and took inefficient quarantine measures. The testing capacities should be doubled.
Socialist MP Bogdan Țîrdea said Viorica Dumbrăveanu deserves all respect and praise, but she is actually the victim of revenge taking. The minister’s key accomplishment is that the mortality rate in Moldova, together with the deaths from COVID-19, for the first five months of this year is by 15% lower compared with the corresponding period last year.
For her part, Minister Viorica Dumbrăveanu assured the MPs that she has integrity and honor, but will not resign and will fulfill her duties with dignity till the end. She expressed her regret at the attacks launched by MPs on her family, saying this is dishonorable. While managing the crisis, she met with resistance coming from inside the health system owing to the existing clans. “I want very much the health system, the Republic of Moldova to be not only compared, but also be comparable with the countries of the EU,” noted the minister.
