Minister of Health, Labor and Social Protection Silvia Radu said the salaries of doctors and medical workers served by the National Health Insurance Company (CNAM) will rise by 20% and, respectively, 10%. The issue was developed in the talk show “Issue of the Day” on Canal2 channel, IPN reports.
The minister noted a bill to this effect was drafted and is to be debated by the Cabinet. “The Government proposed amending the salary law in the case of budget-funded workers, but this law will not apply to doctors and medical workers served by the National Health Insurance Company. That’s why it was decided to intervene and find a solution. About 41,000 employees of the health sector will benefit from a 20% rise in salaries, for qualified doctors, and a 10% rise, for the rest of the employed medical personnel,” stated Silvia Radu.
According to her, over 10,000 doctors, more than 19,000 mid-level health workers and over 10,000 employees with lower qualifications will benefit from pay raises. These raises will not affect the budget of the CNAM.
The minister noted the average salary of qualified doctors is now over 7,000 lei. As a result of the amendments made to the law, the pay will increase by about 1,500 lei. The mid-level health workers have an average salary of 5,000 lei and this will rise by about 500 lei.
“We prepared this bill recently and had negotiations with the CNAM. We found the necessary financial resources owing to the optimization of purchases, including the reduction of costs due to the implementation of the new procurement system in the budgetary sector. This enabled us to find the necessary funds at the CNAM and these will be used to raise the salaries,” stated Silvia Radu.
She noted the provisions will take effect on December 1 this year and higher salaries will be paid at the start of the next year.
