Silvia Radu, who announced her intention to run independently in the October 30 presidential elections, on September 8 submitted the documents required for having her initiative group for collecting signatures registered to the Central Election Commission.
In a news conference at IPN, where she announced her intention, Silvia Radu, the ex-president of Gas Natural Fenosa who is now Spain’s Honorific Consul in the Republic of Moldova, said Moldova needs an apolitical President, who will be free when taking up one’s duties and will remain so throughout the mandate. This should not become involved in a political project and should be a really institutional person, an authentic mediator who would represent all the people and would not divide them according to geopolitical criteria and to the spoken language.
“In the election campaign, I will count on the people with whom I have worked during many years. These are persons with extraordinary personal and professional experience. Our success will be directly proportional to the people’s wish to be managed by an apolitical President. If they want a free President, with full powers, I’m sure that together we will succeed,” stated Silvia Radu.
Under the Election Code, the candidates for President must be older than 40, have lived permanently in Moldova for at least ten years and know the official language. To be registered as electoral competitors, the applicants are obliged to present at least 15,000 signatures in their support collected by the members of initiative groups to the Central Election Commission.
