Representatives of the initiative group for holding the referendum on dismissing Mayor General of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca submitted the collected signatures and the necessary documents to the Buiucani branch of the Court of Chisinau on July 7. The Socialists promise that the referendum will be held in September or October. They consider the mayor should be dismissed because he is irresponsible and corrupt, IPN reports.

In a press briefing, Socialist MP Vlad Batrancea said that in the signature collection process they faced a series of obstacles that were placed by functionaries of the local public authorities and the law enforcement bodies will be notified of this. About 77,000 signatures were submitted to court even if only 64,000 are required. They actually collected approximately 90,000 signatures, but not all of them were accepted owing to the functionaries who resorted to abuse.

The court is to verify the lists of signatures during 15 days and will then make public its decision.
