Signals of support to Moldova's European bid

The foreign ministers of Poland, Italy, Romania, Slovakia, Latvia and Lithuania have confirmed their attendance at the meeting of the Friends of Moldova Group, to be held in Chisinau on September 1. The foreign ministers from all the EU's 28 member countries were invited to participate.

“The gathering will be a strong signal of support to Moldova's pro-European course, of support to its pro-European government, in times when Moldova is facing a series of challenges to its economic stability and national security, given the situation in the region”, stated Valeriu Chiveri, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, after the Government's meeting.

He said that, rather than being a forum for signing some accords or declarations, such kind of get-togethers are designed to create occasions for bilateral meetings, among other, that can eventually result in bilateral agreements. “I expect that we are going to sign an agreement with Malta on e-Governance”, announced Chiveri.

Commenting on a different subject, concerning the upcoming visit of Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitri Rogozin, Chiveri said the agenda is being coordinated by the Ministry of Economy, as Rogozin is visiting Chisinau in his capacity as co-president of the Moldova-Russia Economic Cooperation Commission. “We are glad that Rogozin is accompanied in the delegation by people from Rosselkhoznadzor, from the Russian Customs and from the Ministry of Economy. We will use this opportunity to discuss the resumption of agrifood exports to the Russian market and other bilateral trade issues”, said Deputy Minister Valeriu Chiveri.
