The Republic of Moldova repeats the road covered by Romania in the process of European integration, considers Romanian MEP Siegfried Muresan, who made such statements in the talk show “Pahomi” on Realitatea TV channel, IPN reports.
According to Muresan, Moldova is at the beginning of the road and now only pretends to be doing reforms. “The situation was similar in our country. If a politician met with an EU official, the implementation of reforms was a mandatory subject discussed, but in reality reforms weren’t done. Another staged followed, when the Romanian politicians started to implement reforms, but against their will. They did it under the pressure of the people. The implementation of reforms was a condition for Romania to be accepted into the EU and the Romanians wanted this very much. The politicians from Bucharest didn’t go against the people’s will. When this stage passed, things started to change,” he said.
The MEP also said that the justice sector reform in Romania began in 2004, but the results appeared in 2014. “I don’t think that the justice reform in Moldova could be implemented faster. Here, as in Romania, the reforms go slowly,” he stated.
Siegfried Muresan noted that the EU knows the problems faced by Moldova and is ready to continue to offer assistance. “For the difficult situation to be overcome, the EU is anytime ready to help you do what you cannot do by yourself. The EU has sufficient will to do this. Russia wants a weak and blackmailable Moldova, while we want a powerful and prosperous Moldova,” he said.
