Romanian MEP Siegfried Mureșan said the first doses of COVID-19 vaccines of the 200,000 promised by the President of Romania Klaus Iohannis to the Republic of Moldova are expected to get to Chisinau this week, IPN reports.

“Romania has access to the Pfizer vaccine that should be stored in very strict conditions, at -80 degrees Celsius, and now the second vaccine came from Moderna and this can be stored at higher temperatures. From this vaccine that can be stored easily, the Government of Romania is ready to donate the first doses to the Republic of Moldova, immediately after all the formalities are completed. I think they will become available this week,” Siegfried Mureșan stated in the program “Emphasis on Today” on TVR Moldova channel.

According to the Romanian MEP, negotiations are now held between the EU member states so that the Republic of Moldova and the other Eastern Partnership countries get the vaccine to immunize doctors from COVID-19 hospitals.

“Work is done on a plan through which the EU will donate vaccine doses to the Republic of Moldova and other countries of the Eastern neighborhood for immunizing doctors. Before the European Union agrees the details, the vaccine from Romania will have been supplied to the Republic of Moldova,” stated Siegfried Mureșan.

The National Extraordinary Public Health Commission of Moldova a week ago approved the national COVID-19 immunization plan. At the first stage, there will be vaccinated the personnel of public health facilities. The second stage will cover the adults older than 60 and persons with comorbidities, police employees and others, while the third stage will embrace the general population, regardless of age.
