Shor Party’s reaction to Justice Ministry’s intention to outlaw it

“This is one more serious abuse on the part of the PAS government,” the Shor Party said, referring to the justice minister’s assertion that the Constitutional Court will be requested to consider outlawing the Shor Party, IPN reports.

“Our party was founded based on the right to freedom of association – a sacred value of democracy that is enshrined in the Constitution and the European Convention on Human Rights,” the party noted in a press release.

The party’s leader Ilan Shor said that “Maia Sandu and her regime today decided to give the last blow to democracy in the Republic of Moldova and to take the last step towards the usurpation of power in the state”.

Minister of Justice Sergiu Litvinenco, who announced the Ministry of Justice’s intention to ask the Constitutional Court to declare the Shor Party unconstitutional, said there are sufficient legal circumstances for this party to be outlawed. The minister makes reference to the constitutional provisions according to which the parties that by their goals or activities, argue against political pluralism, rule of law principles, the sovereignty and independence and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova are unconstitutional.
