The Transnistrian leader Yevgheny Shevchuk signed a decree on the implementation of the results of the referendum of 2006, when over 97% of the electors in the region voted for the declaration of Transnistria’s independence so that it could later join the Russian Federation, IPN reports, quoting the local press.
The document also envisions the adjustment of the region’s legislation to the Russian one. By the signed decree, Shevchuk ordered constituting a commission that would harmonize the legislation of Transnistria with the Russian one. The programs and time limits are to be presented to the Transnistrian leader by November 1.
The Transnistrian press reported that the results of that plebiscite haven’t been implemented during ten years, while the fragmentary adjustment of the Transnistrian legislation to the Russian one didn’t allow joining the region to the Russian Federation.
