The incumbent Transnistrian leader Yevgheny Shevchuk  filed an official application to run in the so-called presidential elections that will take place in Transnistria on December 11, IPN reports.

The Transnistrian press reported that Shevchuk submitted the documents to the local electoral body. He said he wants to run for a second term in office in order to continue to make effort to develop the region.

The campaign prior to the so-called presidential elections started on September 11. So far, three persons have applied to be registered as candidates: Irina Vasilachii, Gennady Kuzmichev and Yevgheny Shevchuk. These are to collect between 8,340 and 12,510 signatures in their favor for being registered as election runners. The lists with signatures must be presented by November 10.

According to Transnistrian experts, the struggle will be between Yevgheny Shevchuk and the Supreme Soviet head Vadim Krasnoselski.
