Shevchuk: Economic pressure will be exerted on Tiraspol after Vilnius Summit

The initialing of the Association Agreement between Moldova and the EU will emphasize the disagreements existing between Chisinau and Tiraspol, Transnistrian leader Yevgeny Shevchuk said in a news conference, IPN reports.

According to “Novyi Region” Agency, Yevgeny Shevchuk believes that after the agreement is initialed, economic pressure will start to be exerted on the Transnistrian region so as to oblige Tiraspol to take political decisions, while the Transnistrian companies will no longer be able to export products to the EU.

The Transnistrian leader said the politicians should refrain from taking unilateral actions in this respect. He reminded that a memorandum signed in 1997 provides that Transnistria can decide by itself with whom to establish foreign commercial relations.
