Sheriff Tiraspol beat Slovenia’s NK Maribor with a general score of 1-0 and reached the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League. The team from Tiraspol secured at least participation in the Europa Conference League groups, IPN reports, with reference to the Moldovan Football Federation.
Moldova’s Yansane Momo scored the only goal in the 88th minute. Yellow cards were shown to three footballers of the Slovenian team and a footballer of the Moldovan team.
In the third round, Moldova’s champion meets Viktoria Plzeň of the Czech Republic. The first leg is played at the Zimbru Stadium on August 2 or 3, while the return match takes place away on August 9.
Earlier, the UEFA Executive Committee, in light of the large-scale military escalation resulting in the invasion of the Ukrainian territory by the Russian army, decided that no UEFA competition match shall be played in the region of Transnistria, in Moldova, until further notice. At end-June, it was ascertained that the arena in Chisinau meets all the UEFA requirements applying to the home matched of the team from Tiraspol, in the UEFA interclub competitions.
