Sheriff beat the champion of Armenia Alashkert by the general score of 4-1 and qualified for the third round of the UEFA Champions League. The team from Tiraspol secured at least participation in the UEFA Europa Conference League groups, IPN reports.
Sheriff beat Alashkert 3-1 in the return match played in Tiraspol. The Armenian team opened the score in the tenth minute through Aleksandar Glisic, but Sheriff replied before the break, through the goals scored by Gustavo Dulanto and Henrique Luvannor. Sebastien Thill set the final scoreline in the 87th minute through a penalty kick.
“I’m satisfied with the result and with the play of my team. We achieved the minimum objective,” Sheriff coach Yuri Vernydub told a news conference.
In the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League, Sheriff will meet the champion of Serbia Crvena Zvezda. The first match will be played abroad, on August 3 or 4, while the return match – in Tiraspol on August 10.
