Sheriff qualifies for next Champions League round

Sheriff Tiraspol has qualified for the third qualifying round of the Champions League. On July 23, the ‘yellow blacks’ beat Sutjeska Montenegro 5-0 in the return match away after drawing 1-1 a week ago, IPN reports.

Moldova’s champion started the match vigorously and scored the first goal in the 13th minute through Brazilian halfback Cadu. In the second half, Brazilians Ricardinho and Fernando raised the score to 4-0 and Moldovan fullback Alexandru Scripcenco rounded off with the fifth goal.

In the next stage of the competition, Sheriff plays Dinamo Zagreb. In the second round, the Croatian team eliminated Fola Luxemburg without problems, by a general score of 6-0.

Sheriff and Dinamo met in the qualifying rounds of the Champions League two times, in 2010 and 2012. Each of them scored by a victory. In case of a victory against Croatia’s champion, Sheriff will secure at least the presence in the Europa League groups. If it suffers a defeat, it will compete in the playoffs.
