Sheriff started the new season in the European Cups with a defeat. Moldova’s champion was beaten away by the Georgian team Torpedo Kutaisi 1-2 in the first leg of the second qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League, IPN reports.
The team from Tiraspol opened the score in the 14th minute through Ziguy Badibanga, but the hosts tied in ten minutes through Ghiorghi Kimadze. Torpedo scored the victory goal with a penalty kick converted by Ghiorghi Kuhianidze in the 64th minute.
The second leg between Sheriff and Torpedo is played in Tiraspol on July 18, starting at 8pm.
