Sheriff Tiraspol’s title hopes have been dealt a big blow on matchday 35 of the National Division. On Tuesday, April 26, the reigning champions lost 1-0 to Academia UTM Chisinau, Info-Prim Neo reports. The only goal of the match was scored by Adrian Cascaval on 58 minutes. Previously, Sheriff spurned a great opportunity to grab the lead, as Miral Samardzic failed to convert a penalty kick before half-time. After the match, coach Andrei Sosnitki admitted his team were virtually out of the title race. Academia managed to avoid defeat to Sheriff the third time this season, winning two of the fixtures. With four games to go, Sheriff are four points behind leaders Dacia Chisinau, but have one less match played. The other fixtures of matchday 35 will be played on Saturday, April 30.
