Sheriff defeated in Belarus
Sheriff Tiraspol suffered their third defeat in the Europa League having lost to BATE 3-1 at Borisov, missing the last chance to qualify for the next stage of the competition, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The hosts were the first to score on 15th minute thanks to Vitali Radionov. At the end of the first half Russian striker Alexandr Erokhin equalized for Sheriff. In the second half the game was balanced until the 55th minute when Sheriff's goalkeeper Vladislav Stoyanov suffered a serious injury and had to leave the pitch. The Bulgarian was replaced with less experienced Dmitri Stajila. On 70th minute Alexandr Pavlov's goal gave BATE an advantage and five minutes later Brazilia's Renan Bressan secured the victory for his side with an impeccable free kick.
At the post-game news conference, Sheriff manager Andrei Sosnitski said Stoyanov's elimination was the crucial point. “After that incident, we lost our balance and there was nervousness in the air”, said Sosnitski. For his part, BATE manager Viktor Goncharenko said: “We analyzed very well our rivals and knew their weaknesses”.
