Sheriff defeat Twente 2-0
The Moldovan champions Sheriff Tiraspol defeated 2-0 the Dutch club Twente Enschede in a Europa League match on Thursday, climbing to the second spot in the standings and reviving the chance of qualifying for the next stage, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Sheriff took the lead at the end of the first half courtesy to a header by Benjamin Balima. The guests tried to recover in the second half, but had little to offer in response to an impeccable defense. In added time, the hosts fortified their lead in a counterattack featuring Vladimir Volkov and Jimmy Franca, where the Brazilian completed a mere formality.
After the match, Twente manager Steve McClaren told reporters he was very upset by the result and would try to recover in their home match.
Sheriff coach Leonid Kuciuk spoke with calmness: “I'm glad I managed to make mu side feel confident. It was a genuine team, there on the pitch. Few believed in our victory, but we've always gone for the maximum”, said Kuciuk.
