Sheriff and Sfîntul Gheorghe to meet in final of Football Cup

Sheriff Tiraspol and Sfîntul Gheorghe Suruceni will duel in the final of Moldova’s Football Cup. The team from Tiraspol qualified for the final after beating the current holder of the trophy, FC Petrocub, 3-1, IPN reports.

Petrocub opened the score through Mihai Platica in the 56th minute and the hosts scored in eight minutes through Columbian player Frank Castaneda. Sheriff took over in the 81st minute after the goal scored by Adama Traore, while Dimitrios Kolovos scored in the overtime of the second half.

“For the first time I really enjoyed the match. It was a valuable cup match. I consider a real team is born by such matches,” said the coach of Sheriff Yuri Vernydub.

In the other seminal, Sfîntul Gheorghe defeated Dinamo-Auto 2-1. Nicolai Solodovnicov scored for the future winner, but the hosts tied swiftly through Abdula Genaev. The winner was decided in overtime, where Victor Stînă scored the final goal for Sfîntul Gheorghe.

The final of Moldova’s Cup will be played at the Zimbru Stadium in Chisinau on May 30. Sheriff and Sfîntul Gheorghe also met in the final in 2019. Then, Sheriff won by 1-0 in overtime.
