Sheriff had a successful start in this year’s edition of Champions League, having beaten Luxemburg champions Fola Esch 2-0 in the first qualifying round. The goals were scored by Anatole Abang (36th minute) and Andrej Lukic (81st minute).
“In the first half of the game it’s been difficult to find our way to the goal, because you don’t get easy adversaries in European competitions. I’d like to congratulate the boys on this victory,” said Sheriff manager Zoran Zekic.
In the second qualifying round, Sheriff will encounter the Azerbaijani team Qarabag. The game will be played in a single leg in Baku, on August 26. The Moldovan champions previously met Qarabag twice in European competitions and both times were eliminated.
