Shelin banned from Parliament

Social-Democratic Party leader Victor Shelin has been prohibited from attending Parliament's meeting on an order by Speaker Marian Lupu, Info-Prim Neo reports. The ban comes after Shelin together with Communist leader Vladimir Voronin gathered reporters in the Parliament's lobby on Thursday to announce that their parties would stage common protests against the ruling European Integration Alliance. “Yesterday's action was a serious violation of the protocols, given that a Parliament's podium was used to make the announcement. Only MPs, authors of bills, representatives of parliamentary bodies and no one else may address the public from a podium displaying the Parliament of Moldova's seal”, stated Marian Lupu. Communist MP Eduard Musuc attempted to defend Shelin, saying that the Parliament's real podium is located in the Parliament Hall, and the podium placed in the lobby doesn't count. “That podium in the lobby was used by many who weren't MPs to make statements. You are the one who seriously violated the protocol”, Musuc told Lupu. Victor Shelin and Vladimir Voronin announced yesterday their parties were uniting forces to convince Parliament to hold a national referendum on Moldova's accession to the Russia-Belarus-Kazakhstan Customs Union.
