The share of employees who are paid salaries that are lower than the minimum subsistence level in Moldova is the highest in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). The study was made by Vladimir Sherbakov, secretary general of the General Confederation of Trade Unions based in Moscow, who is Chisinau on a working visit, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the press service of the National Confederation of Trade Unions of Moldova. At a meeting with members of the National Confederation of Trade Unions of Moldova, Vladimir Sherbakov said the employees remunerated under the minimum subsistence level in other CIS states make up at most 15%, while in Moldova they constitute 31%. According to the secretary general of the Confederation, in order to more efficiency contribute to the improvement of the living standards, the trade union movement should be strengthened, there should be created large professional organizations and the employers who infringe salary earners' rights guaranteed by the national and international legislation should be punished stricter. The General Confederation of Trade Unions is a regional institution that includes 10 of the 11 national trade union centers of the CIS countries. It was founded in April 1992, immediately after the dissolution of the Soviet Union.
