Shadow zones on national roads to be covered by radio signal
In the first quarter of the next year, the shadow zones on four national roads – Chisinau-Leuseni, Chisinau-Bender, Chisinau-Balti, and Balti-Cernauti – will be covered by radio signal. Other nine roads of national importance will follow by 2011 year-end, the National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency said in a press release, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
The terms of the licenses granted to mobile telephony operators obliges them to ensure a 60-85% coverage of the respective territory with radio signal. The tests run by the Agency and the National Center for Radio Frequencies show that the operators have exceeded these levels. However, on some national roads there were detected shadow zones, meaning they are not covered by radio signals.
The mobile telephony operators shall present within a week plans of measures to cover the shadow zones existing on the four national roads.
There are three mobile telephony operators working in Moldova at present: Orange Moldova, Moldcell and Moldtelecom, with a fourth operator, Eventis, undergoing insolvency procedures.
