“Sex described for children” between morality and utility

Adviser to Prime Minister on social matters Victor Lutenco said the decision to withdraw the book “Sex described for children” from sale will be put up for debates, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a meeting at the Government on December 15, decision makers and representatives of civil society agreed that the given issue should be discussed in public debates. The representatives of the Ministry of Education said that this book is not a textbook and it was not approved as a teaching aid. On October 20, the expert board of the State Agency for Morality Protection decided that the book can be sold only to persons who turned 18 and only in packing that does not allow looking through it in the store. The book can be read and shown to children only by parents. Victor Lutenco said that Prime Minister Vlad Filat was sensitized to the dangers posed by such a book by representatives of churches. According to the director general of the State Agency for Morality Protection Ilie Vancea, the book was printed at the publishing house “Prut International” in 2004 and was allowed to be sold in Moldova’s bookstores. The decision to withdraw the book from sale was announced by the Premier on December 14. Members of the National NGO Council described it as unjustified interference by the Government in the freedom of expression.
