Severe breaches unveiled in procuring medicines for public health system

The Moldovan authorities have unveiled severe breaches in the mechanism of procuring medicines for the public health system. As a result, the head of the Medication Agency has been dismissed, Info-Prim Neo has learnt from the Presidential press service. The President-in-office, Vladimir Voronin, chaired a sitting on public procurements for the health system, on April 14. He pointed out the inefficiency of the Regulation on purchasing medicines, approved in March 2008. He mentioned that document lacked the anti-corruption expertise, lacked a methodology on assessing the participants in the auctions, and the lack of planning the demand for medicines, what would lead to severe abuses in procuring medications. Vladimir Voronin asked for an expertise of the Regulation on procuring medicines, pointing out the opportunity of borrowing the experience of the European states in terms of procurements in the healthcare system. The President asked to fire the general director of the Medication Agency, Mihai Lupu, for “anti-state attitude in exercising his function.”
