The Government promises to finance in 2007 the building of the Seliste-Vatici-Tabara gas pipe with branches to Nicolaieuca and Curchi Monastic Complex. Also, the construction works of branch pipes to Ivancea, Branesti and Trebujeni are to begin. During the Government session held on March 28 in Orhei, it has been established that only 36 % of the raion’s settlements are currently connected to gas supply. The executive also pledged to finish the construction of the wastewater treatment utility in Orhei. At the same time several educational and medical institutions will be repaired and reconstructed in the raion, as well as national highways. Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev pointed out that Orhei Raion has a substantial economic potential, which is not fully used though. In 2006, the raion budget accumulated incomes of MDL 55.7 mln – by 11% more than the forecasted sums. The State budget still contributes heavily though – 56.8% of the raion’s expenses.
