Several public organizations demand that BCC chairman be dismissed

An initiative group that collects signatures in support of media institutions protested Thursday in front of the Broadcasting Coordination Council (BCC), demanding that the Council's chairman Gheorghe Gorincioi be discharged, Info-Prim Neo reports. The group composed of about 30 persons chanted slogans, asking that all the mass media organizations be provided equal rights. “The present government does not like the journalists who tell the truth, but such an attitude cannot be tolerated forever,” said one of the organizers of the event. Mihail Poleanski, the leader of the group of protesters, said 2,010 signatures had been collected during only three days. The signatories seek a non-discriminatory attitude towards a number of broadcasters. “We demand that the BCC's decisions to impose restrictions on the TV channel NIT, thew radio stations Ploaia de Argint, Antena C, Vocea Rusiei and other broadcasters be annulled. Otherwise, the BCC chairman Gheorghe Gorincioi and all the members of the Council will have to admit that they are unable to manage,” Mihail Poleanski said. According to the organizers, the event was attended by representatives of “Moldova Tanara” Association, the Officers' Union and other public organizations. When the BCC came together for a meeting, delegates of the protesters tried to enter the building, but were not allowed by the guard. The Council did not comment on the incident and protesters' demands.
