Several workers of penitentiaries have been suspended from their jobs because of charges with corruption, neglect of duty and abuse of authority, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Alexei Braduceanu, head of the internal security division within the Penitentiary Department, told the press that this year there were five cases of “prison guards developing irregular relationships with prisoners”, compared to the 12 cases in the same period last year. At least two employees of prison no.13 in Chisinau have been suspended from duties.
A frequent violation discovered by the investigation bodies is that inmates are forced to give fake witness accounts against guards or other prisoners.
According to the Penitentiary Department, the most violations were committed by the personnel of Penitentiary no.13 in Chisinau, of Penitentiary no.9 in Pruncul and of Penitentiary no.5 in Cahul.
