Several Moldovan TV channels secretly owned by top state officials shamelessly broadcast pirated movies, alleged Vasile Nastase, president of the Association for Cultural Development and Copyright Protection “Apollo”, at a press conference on Tuesday, Info-Prim Neo reports. Nastase named TNT Bravo, 2 Plus, TVC 21 and others among these channels. “TNT Bravo is owned by Chiril Lucinschi and 2 Plus by Plahotniuc. Everybody knows this, why pretend we don’t? The latter is Prime Vice President of the Parliament and the former is head of the Commission (the parliamentary Commission for culture, education, research, youth, sports and mass-media). Officially, they don’t represent these TV channels and our state institutions don’t tell us who is behind the 2 Plus company, registered in Netherlands with a statutory capital of 42 million lei. Of course they don’t. They can’t tell us it’s Plahotniuc”, says Vasile Nastase. By the end of March, the Association sent a letter to the Romanian Television Society, informing that 2 Plus broadcasted, under the TVR1 logo, foreign productions for which only TVR1 had obtained the broadcasting rights and only in Romania. The Association demanded TVR1 to confirm 2 Plus’ rights to re-broadcast and to prove that films licensed to TVR1 can be re-broadcasted in Moldova. Vasile Nastase said that Cristi Tabara, head of the Romanian Television’s Film Department, answered him and promised to investigate the 2 Plus issue. “It’s an incredible situation. A local TV station knowingly broadcasts movies interdicted in Moldova, committing penal infringements”, said Nastase. According to him, TNT had a similar policy, illegally broadcasting audiovisual productions. “The situation is beyond any criticism. The Broadcasting Code is dead letters. The new draft is a chimera nobody has seen yet”, the Apollo president said. He urged international institutions to intervene and make the Moldovan Government put an end to this phenomenon.
