Several hundred oak tree saplings were planted in the National Park of Seliste village on March 21. The saplings were grown at a nursery in Telenesti. The activity forms part of the spring planting campaign.

Contacted by IPN, the head of “Moldsilva” Forestry Agency Ion Cebanu said he hopes that this campaign will heighten the people’s awareness. “It often happens that the employees of ”Moldsilva” plant trees and then the people’s animals destroy them. We have to do the same thing for 2-3 years in a row. The forests represent the earth’s lungs. If we take care of the forests, we take care of ourselves, of our health and the public money,” he stated.

The nursery in Telenesti will be included in an international development project. The forests in Orhei region are the most important owing to their wood and history and from economic viewpoint.

According to the press officer of “Moldsilva” Agency Viorica Caciuc, the spring planting campaign will last until the middle of April. The Agency’s 24 forestry companies started to plant trees on the necessary areas.

The UN declared March 21 as the World Forest Day and called on all the countries to organize activities to support this day.
