The National Farmers Federation of Moldova, in concert with the Coordination Committee of protesting farmers and other professional farmers associations, on December 2 will mount a protest in the central square of Chisinau. The farmers intend to express their dissatisfaction with the authorities’ irresponsible attitude to the problems they face as a result of the unprecedented drought, the COVID-19 pandemic and the exodus of labor force.
Contacted by IPN for details, Vasile Myrzenko, executive director of the Federation, said the event will involve several hundred farmers from all the country’s districts. The farmers are dissatisfied with authorities’ actions in relation to the drought-stricken farmers.
The farmers are also discontented with provisions of the draft budgetary-fiscal policy for 2021. The rise in the VAT rate from 8% to 12% for primary agricultural products will generate losses to them and to the state. Only the private companies dealing with sale and purchase will benefit.
The protest will be staged in the Great National Assembly Square in Chisinau starting at 11am.
