The Seventh-Day Adventist Church considers that certain Orthodox associations’ statements that the Adventists are a sect, have a denominational bible and do not believe in Jesus are provoking and insulting, Ilie Leahu, the secretary of the Pastoral Association, Euro-Asia Division, said at a news conference on August 19.
“The Adventist Church has representatives in the UN, which would never permit a sect to enter it. The Adventist Church is smaller than the Orthodox Church, but this does not mean that our rights should be violated,” Ilie Leahu said, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. “We wouldn’t have existed if we had not believed in Jesus Christ. We do not have our own bible as we read the same Bible as all the Christians.”
“The Adventist Church is recognized and has the same rights as other churches in Moldova. We demand that our rights be respected,” said priest Andrei Moldovanu.
The Seventh-Day Adventists on August 15 held a concert forming part of the program “Follow the Bible” at the Christian Adventist Center located on the outskirts of Chisinau. Simultaneously, Orthodox Christians were protesting against the concert in the same place where the event was to take place initially – in the Great National Assembly Square. Nevertheless, the Adventists said they managed to collect 20,500 lei that they donated to the children’s home “Curcubeul” in Vadul lui Voda town.
