Seven Moldovan children repatriated from Russia
Seven Moldovan children that remained without parental care have been repatriated from Russia, Info-Prim Neo has learnt from the Ministry of Social Protection, Family and Child.
The repatriated children are aged between one month and 13 years. The four girls and three boys are from five districts of Moldova.
The youngest of the children was abandoned in the maternity hospital by his mother immediately after birth. Two brothers aged 10 and 13 were taken to Russia two years ago by their mother, who later abandoned them. During this period, they did not go to school. After the minors were brought to a Russian placement center by an unknown person, they went to school in the second and, respectively, third grades. The brothers will be integrated into the extended family in Moldova.
At home, the children were temporarily accommodated at social centers, where they will benefit from rehabilitation services. Steps will be taken to reintegrate them into the society and extended families.
The mission was carried out by the Ministry of Social Protection, Family and Child in cooperation with the Moldovan Embassy in Russia, the Rehabilitation Center for Children of Early Age, the Interior Ministry’s Temporary Placement Center for Minors and the Representative Office of the Swiss Foundation “Terre des hommes” in Moldova.
This is the sixth repatriation mission organized this year. Twenty-five children were brought home as part of these missions.
Fourteen children were brought home from Russia and Ukraine during the five repatriation missions carried out in 2007.
