Seven Communists who formed part of the first Parliament of Moldova refused to put their signatures to the restored Declaration of Independence. “This refusal reveals the Communists' cynicism and makes us put questions as regards the real causes of the destruction of the document,” Pantelei Sandulachi, the chairman of the Association “Parlamentul '90”, which initiated and supported the restoration of the Declaration, told a news conference on May 26, Info-Prim Neo reports. The head of the Bar Association Gheorghe Amihalachioaie, a member of the first Parliament, said the Communists showed they are not worthy of taking part in the restoration of the document. He stressed that the Communists mounted an attack on independence on April 7, 2009, when the Declaration of Independence was allegedly destroyed. Petru Munteanu, deputy chairman of the Association “Parlamentul '90”, said the members of the first legislative body intend to post the copy of the Declaration of Independence at the entrance to every ministry, in schools and other institutions so that everybody sees who contributed to the restoration of the document and who refused to. In this connection, Pantelei Sandulachi said he welcomes the reforms promoted by the Alliance for European Integration and the Government's initiative to celebrate the State Flag Day. In another development, he said he does not understand the position of the PDM and its leader Marian Lupu. According to him, by the initiative to cut former MPs' pensions Lupu manipulates the general public irresponsibly and in a populist way. The Declaration of Independence was restored in a special sitting of the Parliament on April 27. The MPs who did not manage to come to that meeting could put their signatures later. The signatures of the dead lawmakers were scanned. The restored document will be kept in a safe at the National Bank.
