Seven cadets infected with parotitis
Seven future officers from the “Saint George” Cadet Lyceum got infected of parotitis and were admitted to the Hospital of Infectious Diseases.
Coordinating doctor of the Chisinau Urgency Service Anatol Proca explains that parotitis is a viral infection which affects salivary glands, more often the parotid glands, located near the external ear. The disease is spread by the contact with infected saliva. The consequences are more serious in the case of men, because the disease can result in long-term complication if the virus reaches the testicles. In some cases pain and inflammation will be the only consequences of the illness, but sometimes it can cause long-term infertility, especially if the man was infected when he was a teenager or youngster.
Seven men suffered diverse traumas, mostly affecting the head and the face, after participating in a fight which occurred on Alecu Russo after midnight. The six quarrelsome youngsters, aged between 21 and 24, and another man, 48, were taken to the hospital from the police department.
A woman, 50, and a man, 45, were found on the street and hospitalised with general hypothermia.
A 15-year girl attempted to commit suicide by taking organic solvents. She was admitted to the Mother and Child Centre for a long-term treatment.
Over the past 24 hours the Chisinau Emergency Service recorded 682 calls, including 53 cases of virosis, 60 traumas and 7 brain strokes.
