The Moldovan settlement that will have the largest number of declared Romanians in the census that will be taken this month will win a car. The settlements that will take the second and third positions will also be awarded. The campaign “Romanian vehicle for Romanian settlement” is carried out by the Civic Movement “Moldova’s Young People”.
In a news conference at IPN, the movement’s co-chairman Dinu Plangau said there will be calculated the percentage of Romanians based on the data that will be made public by the National Bureau of Statistics after the census of May 12-25. The second settlement with most of Romanians will win a trip to the sea for all the students of this settlement.
The third-ranked settlement will win training courses for the local public authorities, teaching how to access funds from European projects.
Anatol Ursu, co-chairman of the Civic Movement “Moldova’s Young People”, told the same news conference that the preliminary results of the information campaign launched by the movement show that over 40,000 people intend to declare themselves Romanians in this year’s census.
The Movement’s members said the campaign is aimed at preventing the rigging of the results of the 2014 census, as it happened in 2004, when only slightly over 2% of the population said they are Romanian ethnics.
The young people said that within the information campaign they saw that most of the people do not know what census is. Moreover, no census taker visited them in the census taken 10 years ago and they weren’t asked anything.
“Moldova’s Young People” said that more and more people of culture and personalities of Moldova declare themselves Romanians and support their campaign. The young people call on all those who consider themselves Romanians to say this in the census of May 12-25.
