A Straseni man, 24, was sentenced to 7 years in a semi-closed prison after being convicted on 50 counts of theft. In 49 instances, his prey were bicycles.

According to prosecutors, the string of thefts occurred from September 2019 to June 2022. His modus operandi was to sneak into apartment buildings where he would steal the bikes stored in the shared areas. The total damage is estimated at over 300,000 lei.

The man has pleaded guilty and will remain in custody until the conviction takes effect. The sentence may be appealed within 15 days.
