The aspirant for the mayoralty of Chisinau Sergiu Tofilat, who wasn’t registered as an election runner because he didn’t manage to gather the necessary 10,000 signatures in his support, said he gets ready for the local mayoral elections of 2019 also because not only the mayor for a full term, but also the members of the future Chisinau Municipal Council will be elected then. The civic activist developed the issue in the talk show “People’s Council” on 10 TV channel, IPN reports.

Sergiu Tofilat said he announced his intention to run in this year’s local elections so as to make himself known and to prepare for next year’s elections. Also, he wanted to consolidate that part of the voters who do not want to support a party candidate. “I didn’t have time for preparations. I analyzed the situation and saw that we would not manage to collect the necessary signatures and thus decided to calmly prepare for the next ordinary elections, of 2019,” stated the civic activist.

Sergiu Tofilat noted he will not support a candidate in the upcoming mayoral elections and called on the electors not to vote candidates who are blackmailed by the Democratic leader Vladimir Plahotniuc.
